The other f/4 zoom lens now in the comparison window is the Canon EF 11-24mm f/4L USM Lens, a very highly regarded lens. In the Sigma vs. Canon image quality comparison at f/4, I see these two lenses performing similarly. At f/5.6, the Canon is winning more of the focal length comparisons and at f/8, the two lenses are mostly similar with the
The (old) Canon EF 28mm f/2.8 is a relic of the earliest days of EOS. This year it celebrated its 25th (!) year in production which is nothing short of amazing for an AF lens. However, 2012 is finally also the year of its successor - the Canon EF 28mm f/2.8 USM IS. As you may notice the focal length and speed remained the same but Canon added a
The Canon RF 24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z Lens vs. Canon RF 24-105mm F4 L IS USM Lens comparison shows the f/2.8 is far larger and heavier. The f/2.8 lens has 11 aperture blades vs. 9 (its blades also need to close farther to create the same aperture) and 82mm filter threads vs. 77. The Canon EF 28mm f/2.8 USM IS and EF 35mm f/2 USM IS delivered pretty impressive results in our lab. Can the Canon EF 24mm f/2.8 USM IS continue this tradition ? Unfortunately it doesn't quite convince as much. The image quality is far from being bad in general but it could be clearly better at f/2.8 at least. The Canon EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM is a capable but pricey ultra wideangle prime that will appeal most to landscape and reportage photographers looking for a lightweight and responsive lens. Despite it's lack of an L-series billing, the Canon EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM build quality is reassuringly good and it makes a good partner to a full-frame Canon

The 17-40mm also wins big time on vignetting and has lower distortion at focal lengths of 24mm and longer. Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM User Reviews. I had to sold it to get a 70-200/2

I currently own a Canon 50D and Canon 5D mk1 paired with EF 85mm 1.8. I used to have a EF-S 24mm 2.8, which I sold with the aim of buying the EF 28mm f2.8 IS. In my mind, the two lenses will give me all the flexibility I need: 135mm – APS-C + 85mm 1.8 85mm
At 24mm, there will always be some form of corner shading. Canon EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM User Reviews. 8.0/10 average of 1 review(s) Build Quality 9.0/10 Image Quality 8.0/10.

The IS version is definitely sharper. However, in saying that, my 24 non IS is still a tiny bit sharper at f/2.8 than my 24-105L is at 24 mm & f/4. I bought it for landscape/closeup type shots, so generally stop it down a bit, so not at all concerned that the corners are a wee bit soft wide open.
